Peppered Brie with Lavender and Honey

This recipe is the first of our inaugural series featuring as many locally-purchased foods as possible, whether they come from Edgemere Farm, your neighborhood CSA, or Stop n' Shop. Our first recipe, a delightful summer starter, incorporates ingredients that, except for the lavender, come from the grocery store.

Ingredients

1 small wheel of ash-brined brie (see the fancy cheese section at Stop n' Shop)
1 French baguette (also from Stop n' Shop)
Honey
Freshly ground black pepper
Lavender sprigs

Prepare:

Slice the baguette diagonally into slices and toast on a "light" setting, just enough to obtain a little warmth and crunch.

Once toasted, slice the brie and spread on each baguette slice. It'll melt a little bit and bring out its pungent aroma.  Grind several liberal turns of black pepper on each slice, then drizzle with honey to taste. Top with 1 or 2 lavender leaves. Serve warm.

If you can't find lavender, it's equally delicious with fresh thyme or even mint.

Enjoy!
